Red cell distribution width in cardiac diseases: Role of hemorheology and chronic inflammation

چکیده
Red cell distribution width (RDW) is a simple, inexpensive, and unique laboratory parameter. This hematologic parameter reflecting the heterogeneity of red size was used conventionally to differentiate anemic diseases but currently as prognostic marker common well cardiac diseases. Higher RDW associated with lower therapeutic response in patients acute myocardial infarction undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention, those atrial fibrillation catheter ablation, heart failure under drug therapy. showing such wide usefulness linked chronic inflammation, which dysregulates normal erythropoiesis impairs deformability cells within microcirculation. Disturbed microcirculation causes persistent systemic tissue hypoxia-reoxygenation insult impairing redox homeostasis, induces inflammation clonal hematopoiesis intermediate potential stress memory. Therefore, higher sustained many by hemorheological causing expansion erythroid leading reduced increased unknown mechanisms.

Prognostic Validity of Red Cell Distribution Width in Neonatal Sepsis
Background Neonatal sepsis is one of the most critical illness in neonates that is responsible for a great proportion of morbidity and mortality in neonates so early diagnosis and identification of high risk cases is a challenging aim of our study. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prognostic value of red cell distribution width (RDW), in neonatal sepsis at the time of admission ...

BACKGROUND The red blood cell distribution width (RDW) is a rather simple measure of red blood cell (RBC) size heterogeneity (i.e., anisocytosis), which is easily calculated by dividing the standard deviation (SD) of erythrocyte volumes for the mean corpuscular volume (MCV). Emerging evidence suggests that, besides RBC abnormalities, many human disorders may be frequently associated with a high...
متن کاملRed cells distribution width after cardiac arrest
Methods Retrospective analysis of an institutional database including all adult comatose patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after CA from January 2007 to December 2014. Inclusion criteria were as follows: age ≥18, non-traumatic arrest and survival ≥ 24 hours after admission. We collected demographics and CA related data. We also collected daily routine blood analyses; RDW (norma...
متن کاملThe Predictive Role of Red Cell Distribution Width in Mortality among Chronic Kidney Disease Patients
BACKGROUND Recently, accumulating evidence has demonstrated that RDW independently predicts clinically important outcomes in many populations. However, the role of RDW has not been elucidated in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. We conducted the present study with the aim to evaluate the predictive value of RDW in CKD patients. METHODS A retrospective observational cohort study of 1075 s...
متن کاملAssociation between Red Cell Distribution Width and Mortality in Pediatric Patients Admitted to Intensive Care Units
Background: Red cell distribution width (RDW) is a routine laboratory measure that could be used as a predictor of mortality in critically ill patients. Identification of patients at risk for mortality early in the course of PICU admission is an important step in improving the outcome. We aimed to assess the use of RDW as an early biomarker for outcome in pediatric critical illnesses. Methods:...
